Considerations:
Upgrading School Maestro III is just a matter
of replacing previous version files with newer versions. For a single
user, you would just make sure that you were not running School Maestro,
then run the single user setup program to install the newer files over
your existing files.
When School Maestro III is being loaded from a
file server on a network, there may be users that are currently using
the program. This places locks on the files and prevents them from being
replaced. Thus, it is best to upgrade when no one is using the program.
However, there may still be file locks due to users not logging off.
To determine if any of the files are locked, log
on to the server as an administrator, right click on My Computer, then
click Manage to start the MMC. Expand the Shared folders item under
System Tools then click on Shares. The number of client connections
will be listed for each one. You should have no client connections on
anything in your School Maestro III program folder.
You can click the Open Files item. It will list
the files that are open and which user has them open. Make a note of
any that are in your School Maestro III folder. Then click the Sessions
item. It will list the users and the number of files that they have
open. Right click on the users that have School Maestro III files open,
then click All Tasks, Close Session.
After you verify that none of the School Maestro
III files are open, you can run the program only setup for network users
setup program and upgrade to a newer version.
If you upgrade from a downloaded setup program
you can then delete the downloaded file. You can also delete the folder
in your temp folder where the setup program expanded the setup files.
